Slaying Dragons

Is it better to confront your fears and pains head on, or to avoid them?

Or a combination of both?

I think a combination of both. At times, a pain is so big that it is better to leave it alone. Better to run and live to fight another day. At times, when you feel you're strong enough and have the resources to face the dragon again, I say, let's go out and slay that dragon.

At such times, you will find that the dragon has grown much smaller, and you have so much more weapons at your disposal to slay that dragon.

Day by day, you grow stronger, until the dragon has shrunk to poodle-size, and that's when you decide not to slay it but keep it as a pet instead.

hehe, i like that analogy too. fighting pain sounds like a commendable idea but in my (limited) experience i found that it's largely unproductive. pain is usually not the problem... there's usually a bigger issue that needs to be dealt with and the pain is something that has to be dealt with on its own. and in that case i find it usually helps to acknowledge the pain and allow it to pass. (same with fear) usually i admit "ok, i'm afraid, or in pain, but i need not let it consume me."
